BWI Marshall remains the busiest airport in the Washington DC area and two-thirds of passengers at the airport use South-West.

27.1 million passengers passed through BWI in the 12 months ending September 2018, which represented a 4.5 percent increase on the previous year.

BWI has 72 gates while the better known Reagan National has 44 and Dulles has 139 gates. The Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority hopes to drive more traffic to Dulles in the years ahead via a number of initiatives.
